The Australian Logistics Council (ALC) has welcomed the announcement from the NSW, Queensland and Victorian Governments that critical workers in the freight and logistics sector will be able to provide essential services while they are classified as close contacts, provided they are asymptomatic and they meet strict health criteria.
ALC CEO, Brad Williams said the changes were pragmatic and will help ease COVID-related staffing pressures in the food supply chain.
“The situation is constantly evolving and it is important that we respond to the changing dynamics while still ensuring worker and community health and safety,” Mr Williams said.
While a number of ALC members are experiencing delays with some of their stock deliveries to stores due to COVID-related impacts on their supply chain operations, they have stock available within their network and their teams and suppliers are doing all they can to replenish stores as quickly as possible.
This development follows the positive news from National Cabinet last week of the removal of the requirement for truck drivers to have rolling seven days tests (excluding Western Australia).
